Imagine a woman walks into a room wearing stethoscope around her neck. As she takes a few steps into the room she glances at a man seated opposite of her and she yells at the man, “Amoxicillin!” She then looks towards a woman leaning against the wall and yells, “myocardial infarction!” Without skipping a beat, she continues to walk through the room heading towards the back exit and before she departs, she glances toward an infant and shouts, “Gastroenteritis!” This woman had the appearance of a health care provider, confidently and loudly shouted medical sounding words, but it was a charade of utter nonsense. And this example illustrates the ministry of David Hogan.
In speaking engagements, David Hogan routinely chirps, hops, and skips while shouting, “Jesus is King!” all sandwiched between Christian-sounding words and pietistic platitudes. To the casual observer he sounds like he is saying something—after all, a lot of words are emanating from his mouth—but, when Hogan breaks out in his Christianese, he is quite literally not saying anything meaningful. Hogan might as well be chirping and hopping while saying, “Pizza squid is light mud car! Jesus is King! Fire!” I am confident many in attendance would still throw up a hand and respond back, “Amen!”
This is not to say that Hogan is incapable of coherent thinking or clear expression. He has no problem talking about how tough he is, how brave he is, how strong he is, and how spiritually gifted he is—he has a lifetime of tall tales about himself. In between stories about himself, he most likely will share a story about how the “Holy Ghost” knocked some people around a room and they left saved. Hogan routinely uses the word, “gospel,” but I have yet to hear him explain the gospel. The best I have been able to conclude is that David Hogan’s gospel is all about power and health. I am not being hyperbolic when I assert that Hogan’s gospel is entirely about power and health, I have not heard him talk about the gospel in any other terms.
We ought not be surprised of Hogan’s different gospel; listen to Hogan explain or teach Holy Scripture and it becomes clear why he has such a shallow and poor theology. For example, listen to five minutes of Hogan explain Luke 17:11-19 and it ought to become clear he is NOT pulling from the biblical text—he is borrowing a few facts from Scripture to make a point that is not in the text.
David Hogan is a false prophet and a heretic. I am willing to correct this label is someone can provide me a video of David Hogan sharing the biblical gospel or correctly handling (teaching) the word of God.
Anyone wonder why a guy like this isn’t working full time for a hospital!? He would be the greatest “Dr.” In America. But then desperate people wouldn’t give him their last dollars to be well again. And the truth would be revealed.
Richard, I am glad I came upon this as there is some good back and forth on Dave Hogan. My wife wanted to hear him last night so I took her. He did a good walk through of Acts 13 and 14 but most of it was stories of his exploits. He is 72 now and he does mention he was too aggressive when he was younger so maybe he has some level of understanding of his past self centeredness. Many times he reminded people the miracles are not about him but power of Christ and the Holy Spirit so maybe he has grown over the years. I still felt something odd as I do believe those who say he stretches his stories out too much so what is true and what is false. I did not care also how he kept referring to his wife as Woman but that is her problem if she puts up with it. My question to you is have you ever reached out to the man and addressed your concerns to him instead of lobbing attacks on him on the web. If he ever comes to your area would you go to a meeting and ask him out for coffee to confront him? Is he arrogant? I would say yes. Does he expand his stories? Most likely. But hearing him in person he has a sincere heart for the people of Mexico.
Hello Frank,
I would enjoy watching a video of Hogan teaching a Biblical text; I have a difficult time believing he is able to teach Scripture accurately.
As to your questions: No, I have not attempted to reach out to Hogan—as my post asserts, I believe David Hogan is a false prophet and heretic—and yes, I would confront him if given the opportunity. The purpose of this short post was simply to warn Christians about this man as Paul writes in Ephesians 5:11, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”
I have a humble willingness to repent regarding my characterization of David Hogan if anyone would provide me with a video of Hogan a) sharing the biblical gospel or b) teaching about the Jesus recorded in Scripture. Even after nearly 7 years, and watching over a dozen David Hogan sermons (or talks) I am still waiting…
So you have a “humble willingness” to change your unsolicited judgments about a brother in Christ (whether you agree with him or not he is your brother in Christ) based on your own stringent parameters?
I hope you don’t apply stubbornness in your relationship with God or to His Word
You’re essentially saying, “God I’ll stop judging one of your sons when you provide me with the evidence I require to walk like Christ and love a brother that I think may be lost.”
Whatever happened to, “forgive them Father they know not what they do”?
Ephesians 4:15
I have some Christian lady friends that love The Lord, and also love David Hogan.
I have tried and tried to listen and like him, but each time I hear him, I hear pride:(
So so disappointing, I don’t respond to what they say about David, so I believe that speaks volumes.
I have in the past told them I have difficulty,… will be praying for David.
Lord, give us all YOUR discernment as to The Truth, Jesus ✝️
You are talking about something you know nothing about . I heard him before he was a known speaker. He ,by the Holy Ghost had raised 7 people from the dead . I dare you to go where he goes and try to preach , otherwise you should just be scared and stay home lying about what you know not
Hello Jack,
I am not sure you noticed but you commented on a post with a link of David Hogan “preaching.” You do not need to go far to see the absurdities and blatant biblical inconsistencies regarding Hogan. You write, “you are talking about something you know nothing about…” I brought the (video) receipts. What did you bring? At the moment it looks like you are just bringing more of what David Hogan speaks… lies.
Show me a video, one video, part of that one video, of David Hogan sharing the biblical gospel. I have seen more video evidence of Big Foot’s existence than David Hogan sharing the biblical gospel. Show me Hogan’s fruit; not more hot air.
Hi Jack Having heard many stories about David raising people from the dead, in South America, I decided to do some research. Many folklore legends and existed in Christianity over the years. I started looking into some of them. Parsing out fact from fiction. https://scribalwell.wordpress.com/2020/05/07/hogans-no-hero/ And thank you Richard, I just discovered this site the other day.
How many people have you raised from the dead?
Morning.
David Hogan is a missionary, he is not in the States to give you a “feel good” message to your “pew warming” audience. He is here to testify of God’s work in the field, out there in the trenches. Where by seeking God they see results, in the manifestation of His power, lives changed and that is where you will see your “substantial evidence” out there in the mountains and the jungles, and will hear the gospel (that you are seeking to hear from David) preached to the Indians.
This here that you are doing is not building the Kingdom this is tearing it down. Where it is not even your place to do so called “opening people’s eyes” not your place my friend. Holy Spirit is big enough and powerful enough to straighten those who stray. What you are doing here is only loosing your anointing by mud flicking. Praying is your only job.
Build the Kingdom!
David Hogan may be a missionary but he is not a Christian missionary. He does not testify about God; he testifies about himself—he is self-serving and self-worshiping. Jesus to Hogan is simply a name he drops into a sentence; the spirit he follows is one of lies and confusion. I have no interest in building up Hogan’s kingdom, unlike Hogan, I am a minister of the gospel of Christ Jesus—our priorities are much different.
You are mistaken in asserting, “praying is your only job.” Prayer is an important role yet it is one of many. In the context of the great commission we are to be making disciples of all nations—making disciples requires us to do what Jesus commanded (Matt 28:16-20). Of course, I am not suggesting all Christians quit their day jobs to head into the jungles of southeast Asia or south America—we recognize that God has made some to be a hand, an ear, a foot—God has called some into the mission field others into equally important roles. The common denominator should be one Lord, one baptism, one God (Eph 4:5-6). I do not believe Hogan follows the God described in Scripture.
In association with prayer, I have also been called to preach the word in season and out of season; to read and teach truth (Scripture) boldly, rebuking and exhorting (2 Tim 4:1-2); to build up the body of Christ, equipping the saints (Eph 4:12-16); to oversee the church of Christ (Acts 20:28, 1 Tim 3). When the situation warrants, I also contend for the faith (Jude 1:3) and rebuke those who contradict it (Titus 1:9).
It has been nearly 7 years since I made my comments about David Hogan; comments I would have retracted if one person could provide evidence of Hogan sharing the biblical gospel—so far, not even one video has surfaced.
As you examine someone like David Hogan consider the inspired words of Paul, “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
Amen
How many people have I raised from the dead?
Just as many as David Hogan. Zero.
Wow. You talk as if you were standing there. Or have made trip to verify they are false. Have you?
Richard, you are spot on. Sad, how many speak from their belly against the truth of God’s word, while believing themselves to be in it.
They attack those who speak the truth, not knowing that they are under His judgment.
Our Lord told us this would happen.
Be encouraged and keep speaking truth!
The same as David Hogan, zero
For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 2 Peter 2:18
@richard iddings: everyone who read the gospel have different opinion about the gospel, and each of them claimed that their interpretation is the most correct one…. of course each of them need to be proven and the only way to do that is to go to heaven and talk to Jesus Himself
Personally I think we as the body of Christ need to stop this nonsense… of course unless you receive personal letter from Jesus Himself saying that your interpretation is the most correct one
Hello David,
A letter? You mean like Galatians?
Recently, I’ve discovered that David Hogan is referenced by some of the “drunken glory” “toking the Ghost” new age cult teachings of leaders like John Crowder & Brandon Barthrop. They even refer to him as “Father David Hogan”.
I agree with you, David Hogan is nothing but a braggart and a story teller. He is absolutely devoid of any intelligent teaching. All it takes is some quaint country phrases & people lap it up. I’m amazed that so many NAR churches pay to bring him in for a meeting. But having been in the WOF/NAR for two decades and out for about 15 years, I can immediately detect the same formula that these leaders use ( fantastic stories of miracles, humor & irreverence ).
I can’t stand to waste time watching too many of his sermons, but I’d like to see him perform just ONE healing, since he’s made some amazing claims of miracles that he did in 3rd world countries (isn’t that convenient?).
I just watched a video in Youtube : “David Hogan – the Holy Spirit and fire: operating in the Greater Miracles -Part 2 ” . After I sawed that video , I feel like I have to say something for the good of innocent people that really are looking for a miracle from God. First I’m Christian, I see miracles in my life and around me all the time, also I can recognize God anointed, is impossible to not feel that wonderful present. God is amazing , but a lot of people are taking His name invane to do a lot of things to benefit they self.
No matter how great God uses you to heal, but it is very important not to hug, and touch women so much in that way. I realized that it is only with women that he does it. It is also unethical to call women Babe! That is a problem, this is the reason why I don’t let any man or anyone lay hands on me to pray. God is King, and I don’t need to be touched to be healed. because my faith is enough. Now, I would feel uncomfortable, like many of the faces of those women that I could see, who felt uncomfortable when this man hugged and touched them. As a male preacher it is very important not to touch women. I would have sued him, it is disrespectful and a very intelligent way of doing things. Did you know that the spirit of lust and pedophilia likes to play a lot!! Today many are moved by miracles, and God can heal you in your own home or wherever you are if you pray with faith in Jesus name and through his powerful blood. My husband says “something is not right here” we are chaplains and we never do such a thing and if we are going to touch someone for healing we ask permission, there is a professional ethic to follow and respect. Almost every time we see these things, we always see or hear about sex scandals with these types of people later on. I don’t know if anyone can see how he get soo close to these women and how his private part is touching the woman’s body, and he says I love my job! and the camera guy change to zooms to the face only. open your eyes, this is not normal. I also want to tell you, I’m sorry that David let you down when you needed a word of strength or a touch from God. I have learned something over the years, never put your faith in man, the human being will always fail you. However, God will never fail you. I don’t think you’ll find a perfect church either, because there’s always something that you’ll see over the years and it’s going to bother you. In fact, these things sometimes get in our way to help us grow spiritually. I am currently in a church that I disagree with in the way they handle things. But since I am going to see God, and not man, I am still there. Remember, God is not the one who offends you, hurts you, pity you or disappoint you! The human being is who wants to be God, or does things they way, and not God’s way. Many are those who start well, and end badly. Through my experience I have learned to focus on the good, even though there are a thousand bad things happening around me, is really difficult sometimes. But God help me a lot to grow in mercy. In fact, in these situations like the one that happened to you, I think that the enemy really wanted to convince you that the church is blind and could not see who David really is. You may be right, the church doesn’t see what you see. Not everyone has discernment, and believe it or not, many churches and pastors have lost their discernment by focusing on other things. In fact, my church has done it many times, but God taught me to pray for my pastors that God would open their eyes and fill them with discernment. Of course after 14 years in this church, God has given us another ministry job and we have to leave this church in a few months. But it is a battle of spiritual growth. Now it is very important not to serve a false teaching or lucrative ministry . I would not be a part of it. Now, remember salvation is individual and God knows our hearts. We always have to pray for the sinner, it is a command whether we like it or not. Remember, God loves you, God has given you discernment, and he have a purpose for your life, but in the midst of falsehood, lies and drama, God always has something good for you. Let’s focus on the good and on God, and you will see how Satan gets angry, because the bad no longer monopolizes our attention. God bless you.
Richard, I worked 10 years with David Hogan. You are welcome to contact me on FB messenger.
Mike Corbett McAllen, Tx.
Hey man I need to contact you but I don’t use meta bc it sucks devil dogs. Um so this man of God on YouTube is always calling out false prophets because you know the Lord has preordained that our Calvinist brothers serve as watchmen. He puts up pictures of David Hogan along with other ministers and click bait titles like “Apostles? Today?” I always comment that Hogan has never had anyone discredit his miracles. Am I right?
Hi Nick. The research I did on Hogan has plenty of discrediting his supposed miracles, and sensational stories. One person who worked closely with him had to admit he was a pathological liar.
I’ve been looking for video evidence of David Hogans miracles and can’t find them. Since you worked for him for 10 years do you have any videos of his healings and raising all those people from the dead? Maybe you have a YouTube where you could post them and tell us about your experiences. Thank you.
I am curious. Did Richard reach out to you
You should go meet him. Most lifelong Christian Missionaries are dynamic individuals. Try the Oxford graduate and prof. Derrick Prince :
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Db5XfkDI-Frs&ved=2ahUKEwjHxIv46uH0AhWPXM0KHabEDCUQo7QBegQIBhAF&usg=AOvVaw1GcBHlmp64LLAtzr5r4i0f
Hello Robert,
I am a little familiar with Derrick Prince, I have listened to a handful of his sermons. I appreciate Mr. Prince’s fidelity to the teaching of the gospel, his high view of Scripture, and of course, his years of faithful ministry. My issue with David Hogan is not his charismatic theology; I have many brothers and sisters that believe/embrace the continuation of the apostolic gifts. My issue with David Hogan is that he teaches a gospel completely alien from Scripture. I would love to see a message/sermon/YouTube video of Mr. Hogan sharing the true gospel… Until I see such a message, I will continue referring to David Hogan as a charlatan and false teacher.
Thank you for the comments. My boyfriend kept telling me about this man and laughingly repeated his amazing and dead raising stories so I watched several sermons new and old and got the most slimy feeling. Every time I watched DH my spirit rejected DH as folly and not of truth. Super good to see fellow believers recognize truth by and through the Spirit~ we are given a Spirit of Truth for teachers like this! Thank you Jesus!
How did you know you needed deliverance and what deliverance did you go through?
Hi Richard, could you please . . . thoroughly explain, . . . what you mean, when you refer to the “Biblical Gospel?”
Thanks!
Hello J.KimbleAllen,
Great question! Thank you for asking!
The clearest description of the gospel (εὐαγγέλιον, good news) comes to us through the inspired words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…”
One may ask, why is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus good news? Well, let’s consider the bad news. Paul clearly writes in Romans that all have sinned (Rom. 3:23) and in John 8:34, Jesus says that everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin— and the penalty for such sin is death (Rom. 6:23). In John’s vision recorded in Revelation, we learn of judgment before the great throne of God—present are books which have recorded all that we have done and another book which is the Book of Life. John writes, “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Rev 20:15) Bad news.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” (Eph. 2:4-5) And here is the kicker, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Eph 2:8)
For those who place their faith in the finished work of Jesus: His death, burial, and resurrection, there is beautiful good news. As Paul writes, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’”
In simple terms, Jesus paid the debt we owed. As Isaiah described, “he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed…Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant (Jesus), make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.” (Isaiah 53:5, 11)
The thesis of the gospel is ‘Christ crucified.” (1 Cor 1:23) Recognizing that by His sacrifice, we are healed from sin (Isaiah 53:5)— if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Through Jesus we are saved from the wrath of a Holy and Just God. (Rom 5:9, 2 Thes 1:8-9) This is the biblical gospel—this is the good news of Jesus Christ. To you, who is Jesus?
Dear Richard,
I saw David Hogan speak in Portland, Oregon about 7 years ago. True, he did not preach a basic gospel message, but it is not necessary for me to hear the basic gospel every time I go to a meeting with some prominent church leader. I graduated from the spiritual kindergarten most churches are stuck in some time ago. David did not say anything that contradicted the basic Gospel. Hebrews 1:1 states that God spoke to his prophets in diverse manners. I don’t believe that the Holy Spirit is confined to operating in the same exact manner that is recorded in scripture.
I came forward to be ministered to by David. He picked me out of the crowd, approached me, and with a sympathetic expression on his face said, “It looks really bad.” Not long after that I came under persecution by satanists and was in jail after being falsely accused and my ministry website that had reached countless millions went down because I was unable to pay the web host.
One of the women who ministered to all the slain in the Spirit said that donations to David’s ministry would be multiplied back into the hands of the donor by God. After the meeting, I sent a check for $300 to David’s ministry. Several months later, I found a winning lottery ticket worth $250,000 lying on the sidewalk.
My friend Dan was in desperate need of healing from injuries all over his body that his older brother inflicted on him in their youth. He shook David’s hand as he was leaving but was not healed. Years later I came to the realization that Dan is a hopelessly unforgiving person and a phony Christian who gives God a bad name. I have ended our more than 50 year friendship.
Sincerely, Apostle Brady Hess
Hello Brady,
I find it troubling that you so freely acknowledge a distinction between what you call the “basic gospel message” to a different graduated gospel message—especially in light of the Apostle Paul writing, “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one…”
The Apostle Paul boldly proclaimed, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” To the Corinthians, Paul writes, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God… Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified…” Christians, those of us who follow Christ as part of the universal and apostolic church, recognize that the basic gospel (as you described it) is THE POWER OF GOD. Do you find the gospel of Jesus Christ boring? What is this other gospel message that you have grown to believe? Sow a financial seed, reap a financial reward? Is this a fruit of the Spirit?
You wrote, “David did not say anything that contradicted the basic gospel.” I have a difficult time believing this to be true as his schtick of sharing his anecdotal “ministry” encounters are alien to the inspired recorded witness of Christ (i.e. The Holy Bible) and entirely void of any testimony of Christ. You referenced Hebrews 1:1 in an attempt to dislodge truth from an objective standard (i.e. The Holy Bible) towards a subjective experiential standard. Yet, Hebrews 1:1 does not help your argument, in fact, it should undo it. Think of this opening paragraph in Hebrews as two bookends. The opening bookend points to the old testament leaders, warnings, judgements, and promises (many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets)—the writer of Hebrews then juxtaposes this (but, in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son) to the superiority of the Son (the radiance of the glory of God, the exact imprint of his nature). The subject of Hebrews 1 is not about prophesy—it is about the superiority of Jesus (the closing bookend). This passage is also implying a purpose in God’s continued long(suffering) relationship with his creation—and part of that implication must have something to do with sin because the inspired writer records, “after making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…”
If you believe this message of the good news of Jesus to be just a basic message, then I fear you may not understand it. Christ suffered and died to secure it, the Apostles died sharing it, and their example continues to this day to share this basic gospel message—because there is not another. Brady, I implore you to repent. I implore you to stop taking the Lord’s name in vain; stop misrepresenting yourself as an “Apostle”; and please, cry out to the biblical Jesus for forgiveness and faith.
David Hogan lies about raising the Dead. Hedi Baker doe not preach the cross and has a demonic mantra leading to demonic manifestations. I was in thereovememt for years until 5 months ago when l literally delivered from a demonic curse from NAR practices. No doubt what so ever that these people are the false prophets and anointed ones ( Christs) our Lord and saviour Jesus speaks of in Matthew 24. Lying signs and wonders to decive if possible even the elect of God. 24 out of 27 books of the New Testament speak of warnings about false prophets as a sign of last days deception. Truth mixed with error is Satan’s most wicked deception. 2 Timothy chapter 4. Doctrine of Demons.
Well Sandra, you might be surprised to find out that Heidi Baker is a very close friend of David Hogan.
I think he is the one I saw on a youtube video some time ago who claimed he laid hands on a possessed, or even dead young woman in a hut in Mexico, she elevated several feet off the floor, he left her and three days later came back and she was still there. I have never heard of this kind of activity done by the Holy Spirit EVER and believe this either never happened OR happened through dubious influences. I tend toward the first interp. I don’t have a problem with anything he “says,” but my “favorite” modern day missionary, Heidi Baker, married to the man God told her to marry, ALWAYS talks about the bible, ALWAYS talks about how wonderful Jesus is, nearly with tears in her eyes every time, and NEVER leaves the Word out, but not to teach it, as she really just offers it as explanation and part of how she gets her own instruction and what she is currently celebrating. I can’t trust people who aren’t in love with the Master, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. And if you have that, I’ve NEVER EVER seen it where this love isn’t also woven with a love for the Word, and for the process of getting closer and closer to Him via searching those scriptures for everything. Some people focus a lot on the authority of the Word, but there is even more than that… there is a calling in it, a relentless calling that says, COME, TRUST ME, FOLLOW ME, his voice is so lovely. I think Hogan’s tongues are real, and I think he loves God, but I think he has amplified certain aspects of his experience to secure a hook in the hall for his hat for being a member of the modern day prophetic. Thing is, people who actually ARE prophetic and DO raise the dead, they are UNDONE by the Goodness of God and the authorship of good deeds by God in their own lives. They are only glad that they GET TO be part of it; they know beyond a shadow of a doubt WHO DESERVES THE GLORY. I appreciate your having posted this because Mr. Hogan is in town next week, supported by a couple prominent ministries, and I have an issue related to my own personal physical healing needs, and I am NOT interested in submitting to something that is not fully drenched in the Word and in His Spirit. Bless God!
I would guess that I have raised the dead, healed the blind and crippled about as recently as David Hogan has.
Sound like you are jealous of the servant of God, when was the last time you raised the dead or healed the blind? The cripple? Stop being jealous and pray that Hod will give you the same anointing as Pastor Davis. You are pathetic
I worked with him…know others that have worked for him. I look back now and can’t believe everything I witnessed there and seen and heard. I will say this… if people knew all that Hogan has done and said and people he has hurt most churches he preaches at wouldn’t have him anymore … I think it’s time he is called out on this stuff to be honest
Sorry but hogan is just like Jesus here on earth. You need to hit your knees son. Talking against Gods servant is not healthy. Sorry to hear you feel like that.
He may be like someone named Jesus you know, but he is nothing like the Jesus Christ of Holy Scripture. Hogan may be a servant of his god, but he is not a servant of The God. Show me a single sermon where Hogan shares the biblical gospel. I am willing to overlook much of his showmanship and incoherent “preaching” if someone can show evidence that he is speaking of 1) the Jesus described to us in scripture and 2) sharing the same gospel message found in scripture. Paul is clear in Galatians, “If we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.”
Hi Richard. It is my observation that we allow ourselves to be deceived by failing to ask the right questions. In the case of Mr hogan, the question isn’t “do u believe in the sign gifts, but is, is Mr hogan telling the truth?” I suggest there is a clue to this in a YouTube video called “man raised from the dead on airplane”. In this video Mr hogan I believe makes a mistake in telling a story that supposedly occured in an environment that is highly regulated and therefore is full of standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and follow up documentation. In this video Mr hogan claims to raise a man from the dead on a flight from new Zealand to LA. He says he does this in full view of all on the plane and the story ends with the man who was raised from dead talking to Mr hogan as they both go through customs at LAX. I’ve showed this video to an airline CEO and friends who are employed as cabin crew on international airlines. Every single one of them says the story is pure fantasy as there are elements of the story that tell them the story is fraudulent. Those who work as cabin crew tell me that such a medical emergency would result in the passenger being met by emergency responders on the aircraft or at the gate and then being taken to hospital for assessment, not disembarking and allowed to wander off and go through normal border checks as described by Mr hogan. Such an incident would result in Incendent reports for both the airline and the airport (LAX). It is my understanding that no so such documentation exists? It is also inconceivable to most of us that a plane load of people could witness such an “amazing thing” and not one witness can be found? People who suggest mr hogan’s story is true, are yet to fully grasp man’s capacity to be deceptive. If one digs deep enough you can find testimony from some who have been close to Mr hogan and they describe him as a “compulsive lier and one who is know for his fantasies”. While we ignore the obvious clues Mr horgan will continue to trot the globe at the expense of others telling is made up stories so he can “tickle our ears”. Not bad gig if you can get it.
Hello Garry,
You make a fantastic point regarding the procedure/reporting that would be involved on a commercial aircraft. Thanks for bringing that point up!
We (my husband and I) don’t know the man David Hogan personally. A friend in our chruccch recommended him and gave us a CD to listten to. From listening to him and seeing the above video, he knows not to directly claim a resurrection of a dead person if he was not physically present. On his website he shows five pictures with brief stories of resurrections not associated with him. Their own family members prayed and God answered. We believe that healing and resurrection of the dead as sign gifts are still for today, but we do not believe in making a side show and a circus out of it. Also, his story in the above video could be verified by many witnesses if it had a shred of truth in it, two medical doctors plus other passengers, not to mention the aircraft workers were present on board with him, according to his story.
He does not preach sermons but uses the venue as a basis for telling his stories. David Hogan always ends up the hero of his stories, not Jesus Christ, although he throws Jesus’ name out like popcorn. He is entertaining to watch and listen to, but listener beware. There have always been charlatans who will say anything for a buck. Any dollar given him will be multiplied many times over because he lives in Mexico.
On another subject: We have a problem with self-proclaimed “apostles” and “prophets”. A true apostle is one sent by God, not someone who calls himself or herself an apostle. We changed the term “apostle” out centuries ago for “missionary”, same idea. That does not mean that there are not current apostles, but ones who call themselves apostles probably are not. Anyone on an ego trip wants a high-sounding title. Paul claimed that title not because he thought more highly of himself than he ought. He showed that he had suffered much more than most and that he had close fellowship with Jesus Christ. There were witnesses to his apostleship who traveled with him. His letters offer guidelines for Christian living and discipleship that are still valid today. He would be appaled at some of the people who claim apostleship today. Have they been beaten on numerous occasions because they preached the Good News of Jesus Christ? Have they been jailed for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ? If it came down to it, they probably would think they were persecuted if someone just personally insulted them. True prophets of God are never wrong. If they have as poor a track record concerning prophecy, as most of these self-proclaimed prophets have, they would have been stoned to death under the law. Less than 50% of what they say happens. Jean Dixon had a better rate of predicting the future than these so-called Christian prophets have. Once again, we are called to have discernment and pay attention to the details, not to believe every spirit but to test the spirits to see what sort they are (1 John 4:1), “because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
Paul also warned Timothy to study to show himself approved unto God (2 Timothy 2:15). Knowing a few scriptures is not the whole counsel of God. Also, Timothy was prophesied over, probably by Paul and Barnabas or another colaborer with Paul, but that did not get him off the hook of studying and making sure he was still in the faith. It is too easy to deceive ourselves. My husband and I read the scriptures daily. We cannot go on our own past performance or our memory. The whole Bible is there for a reason. The false falls away in the presence of Truth.
Finally, Jesus Christ is the judge of all who call themselves Christians. We each stand accountable to him. Sheep are at his right hand and goats are at his left hand in that judgment. (Matthew 25:31-46) I want always to be at his right hand and to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” That is the only praise that counts. I know that scripture tells me to press on, not give up, keep on believing and doing whatever Jesus tells me to do until He comes or until I die. (Matthew 24)
Saw David in person, he came to our church and I saw some amazing things. But I don’t recall him claiming anything other than Jesus is king, and boasted allot about his weekness as a human. God Bless you man, not at all giving you a hard time but that’s what I saw with my own two eyes. Did you know that for four years he prayed for people and never saw anything at the beginning of his ministry! Crazy I would’ve given up and thought well I guess I don’t have the gift of healing. He said the night I saw him that what he did instead was get on his knees prayed to god and said Lord Jesus your word says this should happen. Take out the unbelief in my heart. To me, brother David is an example of seeing things through faith and not submitting when the world tells us otherwise through personal experience, or how life is going.
Hello Edward,
Thank you for your comment. I would love to see a single video of David Hogan sharing or describing the biblical gospel. Could you share one with me?
Thanks for reply, I learned by experience about ” another spirit. religious spirts, etc ” years ago, thru a teaching by Jesse pennlewis, and also watchman nee. A teaching on how to discern and test the spirit, and sure enough what we were experiencing was not of God, it took a few weeks to fully pull down the strong hold in my mind, The Spirit is subject to the prophets was the main scripture that got us back on tract. I have learned as a conservative full gospel believer , that discerning with the word is vitally important , and something the charismatic church Does Not Do. Ok then thanks for your time. Ps I am really searching on info, that would expose David Hogan , it seems hard to find.
Hi Ronald. This is my research on David Hogan. I mentioned this above, but forgot to include my blog link. https://scribalwell.wordpress.com/2020/05/07/hogans-no-hero/
PS, Yes, His so called gifts may be of another spirit , another Jesus, I agree.
Richard, not being divisive , do you believe the “sign” gifts are in operation today? Either way ,I believe he is preaching another gospel , not the finished work of the cross. May God bless you.
Yes, I acknowledge spiritual gifts; but not in the way and frequency we see them within the mainline charismatic movement. I believe ALL gifts must be measured against God’s word – and as such, we find most modern demonstrations of these gifts lacking.
WE read in 1 cor that the gifts of the spirit , gift of healing , gift of miracles etc are given to individuals and not all have the same gifts, also our calling is not to the same places….Hogan berates and tries to shame the body for not doing what he does , and boasts as if it wasn’t given to him. Becarefull opening the door of your heart to davids words may bring on a fanatical, religious spirit. Ive had one in a very militant ministry and it causes you to bully and push the sheep, it is ugly.
Hogan represents a much bigger problem than the issue of spiritual gifts; he preaches a different gospel and seems to have a gnostic understanding/description of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. If he has a gnostic Jesus then my next question would be from where are his spiritual gifts derived?
I hope for all of your own sakes you’ve judged righteously
David Hogan is not a discernment challenge. He is so far outside biblical orthodoxy, a point he frequently recognizes and mocks, it is difficult to take him as serious as his defenders do. Folks, the Bible is our standard for truth—not me nor David Hogan. And if Hogan himself recognizes he is outside biblical orthodoxy I do not understand why is controversial to call him out as a false-teacher and heretic. I am not being name calling to be rude, I am applying biblical words with their corresponding definitions to accurately describe the ministry of David Hogan. If you do not like this reality, may I suggest calling Hogan to repentance.
